al lamakan or no place

Refugee homes are ment to be a short time residence, its a place in-between for a refugee. To live in these neutral and improvised buildings increases the feeling of disorientation and homelessness. As my final project at university I worked seven month with a group of jung syrian men to change the neutrality of their home.

At the beginning of the project we drew paintings on paper to figure out what we want to paint on the walls. After a few weeks of drawing we started to cut latin and arabic letters and combined them on a new peace of paper. These new shapes and formes show how it is possible to combine these two fonts that relate to different cultures into something new – without loosing character.
